Has anyone successfully used (1) an Intel PC running Ubuntu 24.04, (2) with an installed VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6306/7/8 [Fire II(M)] IEEE 1394 OHCI Controller (rev 80) card, and (3) a Sony DCR-TRV120 Digital8 Handycam?
I just install a PCI FireWire controller to transfer Digital8 video tapes to my PC. After several attempts to follow posted advice, I continue to receive the message, Error: no camera exists. The Handycam appears to be fully operational and supported video control / transfer in the past (~15-20 years ago) using older PCs, but I am having no luck with my current PC. It seems like others have encountered similar issues, and I have not discovered root cause.
Has anyone been successful in configuring and using this type of FireWire device? If so, please share your findings.
